FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can Pavers be used in cold Kentuckiana climates?

Yes Interlocking Concrete Pavers are ideal  for cold northern climates and are unaffected by

extremes of heat and frost. Because the Pavers are installed on a sand bed without mortar, they can

expand and contract with the freeze-thaw cycles without cracking, chipping or spalling. Once

properly installed and compacted, a street or driveway pavement can be snow-plowed.

Can Pavers be used for heavy-duty applications?

High-quality Pavers are exceptionally durable, offering unique advantages over traditional

concrete and asphalt pavements such as resistance to severe loads, superior stability under heavy point

loads, flexibility of repair, and low maintenance. Patented shapes resist twisting and tipping under heavy load and was

especially designed for mechanical installation of large-scale,heavy-duty projects such as port and container facilities, rail yards, airport hardstands, industrial yards, and streets.

Are edge restraints necessary for all concrete paver projects?

Yes. Edge restraints for all types of concrete paver projects,

including light duty residential applications such as walkways or patios. Edge restraints help keep

pavers from spreading apart or tipping, therby maintaining consistent interlock of the units

throughout the pavement. Many types of edge restraints are available including precast concrete or

cut stone, steel, aluminum, plastic, timber, and troweled concrete toes. Existing curbs, stairs, and

walls are also suitable as edging for pavers.

Is a base required for light-duty residential paver projects?

A minimum 4-6" compacted aggregate base for pedestrian paver applications such as walkways, patios, and

courtyards for good results and performance. This is especially true in areas exposed to freeze-thaw cycles or with poor site

soils.

Can permeable pavers be used in parking lots?

Permeable pavers are ideal for large-scale pavement areas such as parking lots. The patented paver

was specifically designed to infiltrate rainwater for stormwater control and management and reduce

runoff from paved areas. Like all pavers they are durable and strong and are capable of supporting vehicular loads.

Is it necessary to use a sealer on concrete pavers?

It is not necessary to use a sealer on concrete pavers. Sealer does help resist stain penetration,

enhances and deepens the color, and binds the sand in between the joints which helps resist weed

penetration.

Can weeds be prevented from growing between the joints?

Make  sure that the joints between the pavers are completely filled with sand to minimize weed

seedlings falling into the joint spacing. Use of a paver sealent will also help minimize the weed

growth. Any weeds that might grow can be removed with a spot vegetation killer available at

any home or garden center.
